Bar in Brussels is inspired by René Magritte’s surrealism

To celebrate the Belgian artist’s 125th birthday René Magritteo Hotel Friendfrom the Rocco Forte chain, in Brussels, opened a bar dedicated to the life and work of the surrealist genius.

The space combines a cocktail menu created by the renowned mixologist Salvatore Calabrese with exquisite design and a touch of mystery.

In the decoration, designer Adam Ellis developed an exclusive wallpaper inspired by the work Women (1922), by Magritte. The color palette, full of deep and bright tones, was combined with playful textures, complemented by stunning art deco-inspired stained glass windows.

“In partnership with Do Design Studio [escritório responsável pelo projeto], we chose green velvet stools with white details, and other furniture, such as pink and blue chairs and a bronze counter. Bar Magritte’s menu was divided into two sections: Your works e Your world. In the first of them, ten drinks are inspired by the works of Magritte. Between them, Scheherazadea citrusy, fizzy martini; Lyricism, made with pear; It is Magrittea tribute to the artist’s love of red wine.

O menu Your world includes ten classic cocktails from Magritte’s life, such as Casanovaa tribute to the also realist Salvador Dalí; Film Maker, named following famous director Alfred Hitchcock; It is Bronxa New York classic popular when Magritte lived in the Big Apple.

“It was a real pleasure to create this unusual menu, reflecting the life and work of one of the most esteemed artists we know. Magritte gave us a lot of inspiration to draw on. I hope guests feel as much pleasure in tasting them as we did in creating them”, wishes the establishment’s mixologist.
