THE GOVERNMENT will try to maintain the stability of prices of basic commodities during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2024. This is because food prices generally experience spikes during that period.
“We are trying (to control prices) as best as possible. Including coordination with Ministries/Institutions, regional governments, BUMN/BUMD, Private Sector. Also implementing the GPM or Cheap Food Movement in 514 City Districts,” said Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi to the Media Indonesia, Thursday (7/3).
He said that prices of a number of basic commodities would decrease in March and April in line with the harvest period or seasonal factors. The price of rice, for example, both medium and premium will experience a decline in line with the large harvest in March and April.
Apart from that, the price of feed corn will also decrease in line with the harvest which is already underway and is estimated until April 2024. Then cayenne peppers and curly chilies have also shown a decline in prices compared to some time ago.
“There are large red chilies that have risen due to yesterday’s failed harvest and the price will only improve in the next two months,” said Arief.
Based on monitoring on the Bapanas commodity price panel, it can be seen that the prices of several commodities have decreased. The price of premium rice, for example, at the retail level decreased by 0.06% to IDR 16,490 per kg.
