“Banking Exclusions: How Non-Profit Organizations are Being Affected and What You Need to Know”

The non-profit sector considers itself to be the victim of a wave of banking exclusions. “Since last summer, we have received many complaints from non-profit organizations and foundations whose accounts have been unilaterally closed by their bank”thus testifies Tuesday, in L’Echo, Erik Todts, who coordinates the Coalition Impact, a dome representing several thousand associations and foundations active in Belgium.

Febelfin confirms the phenomenon, but indicates that it does not know the individual causes. The associations complain of a lack of flexibility on the part of the banks, unnecessary administrative procedures and an overly strict risk reduction policy. Banks do not want to expose themselves to any risk, particularly in terms of anti-money laundering rules, and therefore exclude certain customers who do not provide them with the guarantees or documents required.

On the French-speaking side, between 300 and 400 non-profit organizations close their doors each month. Part of these cessations of activity would be due to banking exclusions.
