Life imprisonment! This is the sentence required by the master of the prosecution once morest Khadim Mané and Moustapha Dieng. The latter, who received, three months ago, respective sentences of 7 years and 10 years of criminal imprisonment, appeared once more, this Thursday, at the bar of the Criminal Chamber of the High Court Pikine / Guédiawaye .
The lure of easy money has led Khadim Mané and Moustapha Dieng into a spiral where they will find it difficult to get out. Aged 32 and 31 respectively, the two acolytes have a favorite game, bank robbery. In the space of 15 days, they managed to rob two wafa cash points, in May 2020. Their first package took place at Nord Foire where the criminals took 4,000,000 CFA francs. Satisfied with their first shot, the duo decides to reproduce their action, but this time, in the suburbs of Dakar, precisely at Golf Sud. This time, the burglars will try to escape with 14,000,000 CFA francs.
Indeed, while he wanted to return to their scooter, Khadim Mané was apprehended by the security guard. Taken to the police station, he confesses. Better, he recognizes that he and his friend are the perpetrators of the robbery which took place 15 days earlier, at Nord Foire, in a Wafa Cash point. Cooperative, he helped the investigators to arrest his accomplice who had managed to flee with his motorcycle.
Sentenced three months ago by the Criminal Chamber of Dakar respectively to 7 and 10 years of criminal imprisonment, Khadim Mané and Moustapha Dieng faced this Thursday, the judges of the Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Pikine / Guediawaye. They are accused of criminal association, theft in a meeting with the use of a weapon and with a means of transport. Although Khadim admitted the facts, his co-defendant pleaded not guilty.
Resident in Yeumbeul, Khadim Mané, trader by trade, says: “He was the first to enter the bank to neutralize the security guard. Then I went into action. I walked up to the lady and demanded that she give me the money that was in the cash box”. However, to lessen the extent of their act, he declares that there was no prior agreement.
As for Moustapha Dieng, he continues to proclaim his innocence. “I deny all charges. I have my motorcycle and I do deliveries. On April 20, 2020, Mané contacted me by telephone around 2:00 p.m. to ask me to drive him to Cambèréne I. Which I accepted. Arriving at his home in Cité Damel, we went together to the Wafacash bank. Once there, I stayed outside and he came back. Some time later, he contacted me by telephone and invited me to join him. Which I did without hesitation. On returning, Mr. Khadim Mané immediately climbed the windows of the counter where was the one you tell me is called Madame Diallo. He asked me to master the security guard. I complied. It was in the meantime that the named Khadim Mané seized the money, putting it in the bag. Then I went out to leave with my motorbike,” he said.
Despite his denials, the witness, in this case the security guard, formally acknowledged them. Following the lawyer for the civil party who claimed the symbolic franc, the master of the prosecution requested life imprisonment. According to him, the defendants are real gangsters because they are not at their first attempt. The defense lawyers, for their part, called for a benevolent application of the criminal law. The case under advisement, the judgment will be rendered on June 7th.
