Bank employee protected senior citizen in Tyrol from fraud

The senior citizen was instructed by “fake police officers” to collect and hand over her money, otherwise her daughter-in-law would have to be imprisoned. The 83-year-old believed the caller and went to the financial institution, where the bank employee noticed the situation and called the police.

The 83-year-old received the call around 1:30 p.m. The woman was told that she was not allowed to interrupt the telephone conversation under any circumstances and that she was not allowed to tell anyone regarding it. Not only should she have withdrawn a mid-five-figure amount of money, but she should also have handed over gold investments in the low five-figure range. When the 83-year-old entered the bank, she had her cell phone – with the connection active – in her handbag. The bank employee asked the woman if she wanted to withdraw money and at the same time gestured to the senior citizen not to say anything. The police were subsequently notified via an emergency call. According to the executive branch, the same fraud trick was attempted several times last Friday, but no damage was caused.
