Bank credit increases by 75 billion dirhams in 2022, outstanding debts increase

In 2022, outstanding bank loans increased by 7.6% compared to the previous year. A sharp increase is observed in accounts receivable and cash loans, which increased by 36.2 billion dirhams in value in 2022. Overdue receivables increased by 5.5% in 2022 and reached 89.5 billion dirhams.

The latest publication of Bank Al-Maghrib monetary statistics shows an increase in bank loans in December 2022 compared to the previous month.

Outstanding bank loans stood at 1,059 billion dirhams, up 3.5% or 35 billion dirhams compared to November 2022. If we compare with the same period in 2021, bank credit shows an increase of 7.6% or 75 billion dirhams.

In details, mortgage credit in December 2022 increased (+0.3%) compared to the previous month at 299.2 billion dirhams. Compared to 2021, outstanding mortgage loans increased by 2.2%.

Accounts accounts receivable and cash credits posted a 1% increase in December compared to November 2022 and reached 261.9 billion dirhams. Compared to 2021, outstandings increased by 16% or 36.2 billion dirhams in value.

The credit to equipment was posted at 183.9 billion dirhams, up 3.5% compared to last month. From one year to the next, it shows an increase of 8.8% or 14.8 billion dirhams in value.

The credit to the consumption down 0.3% to 57.8 billion dirhams. Over a sliding year, it increased by 3.9% or 2.17 billion dirhams in value.

Increase in bank credit in 2022, in particular to private companies

Concerning the different categories of borrowers, outstanding loans to households amounted to 379.5 billion dirhams, down 0.5% compared to last month. Compared to 2021, outstandings increased by 3.5%.

Outstandings to private companies amounted to 449.4 billion dirhams, up 2.6% compared to last month. Over one year, outstandings to private companies increased by 10.9%.

Regarding the financial sector, outstanding bank loans rose sharply by 19.6% compared to last month to 150.5 billion dirhams. Year-on-year, outstandings increased by 5.3%.

Outstandings in the public sector increased slightly by 2% to 80.5 billion dirhams compared to last month. From one year to the next, it is experiencing a sharp increase of 15%.

Unpaid bills increase by 4.7 billion dirhams in 2022

Outstanding receivables amounted to 89.5 billion dirhams in December 2022, down slightly by 0.2% compared to the previous month. Over one year, they increased by 5.5% or 4.7 billion dirhams.
