Bank Al-Maghrib is putting into circulation a new 20 dirham banknote, starting today, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, as part of the celebration of the glorious Youth Day.

A statement from Bank Al-Maghrib explained that the new 20 dirham banknote, which is being issued as part of the new series of banknotes and coins, highlights Morocco’s rich architectural heritage and socio-cultural development.

The same source added that the face of the banknote includes a picture of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Kingdom’s emblem, as well as architectural decoration inspired by Moroccan doors and a stylized view of Al-Qarawiyyin University in Fez.

The back of the banknote includes artistic representations of the Grand Theatre in Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, a sports facility stand, and a stylized drawing of the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou.

This new banknote features the latest technology in security elements such as a dynamic colour-changing security thread, an iridescent strip on the back, raised graphics for the visually impaired and ascending serial numbers.

The statement concluded that all stages of designing and producing this new banknote were carried out exclusively by the Moroccan competencies that the Mint has.
