Banjul: Minister Alpha Bacar shares Guinea’s initiatives to promote scientific publication in Africa

On the sidelines of the third edition of the Pan-African Conference of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) in Banjul, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Mr. Alpha Bacar Barry, co- moderated a high-level panel alongside his counterpart from The Gambia, the ๐๐ข๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐ž ๐†๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ณ, and the Secretary of State for Higher Education of Cape Verde, the ๐๐ซ ๐„๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข ๐๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ข๐ซ๐จ. The theme of this panel was ๐ฅ’รฉ๐ญ๐š๐ญ ๐๐ž๐ฌ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ž ๐ฅ๐š ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฌ๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž ๐ž๐ง ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐ž.

During this session, Mr. President took the opportunity to present the initiatives and policies implemented by Guinea with a view to promoting scientific publication and encouraging academic mobility. He highlighted the efforts made by his country to support research and promote access to knowledge, particularly through funding programs and international partnerships.

The discussions that followed were particularly fruitful, not only highlighting the good practices of each country represented, but also fostering dialogue and collaboration within the French-speaking academic community in Africa. These discussions also highlighted the persistent challenges faced by researchers and academics on the continent, such as lack of funding, inadequate infrastructure, and language barriers.
