He is serving as the Chief Advisor in the Caretaker Government and it is the responsibility of this Government to conduct general elections in the country.

During a special briefing in Dhaka, Yunus said the interim government would prepare the country for fresh elections after a series of reforms.

He said that we will undertake strong and far-reaching economic reforms to restore macroeconomic stability and sustain growth, including good governance and combating corruption and mismanagement.

Most of the striking police officers returned to work last week after negotiations with the new government.

Yunus said, ‘We will be back to normal in no time.’

“We have made it a priority to ensure justice and accountability for all the deaths and violence that occurred during the recent popular uprising. I have spoken to the UN human rights chief, Volker Turk.

The United Nations will send its fact-finding team next week to investigate the deaths of protesters under Sheikh Hasina’s regime.

Younis said, ‘We will provide all possible assistance to the UN investigators. We will also make sincere efforts to promote national reconciliation.’
