Banesco and the Red Cross join forces to support families in Cumanacoa

Banesco Banco Universal, a 100% Venezuelan-owned banking institution, made a contribution of US$100,000 to the population of Cumanacoa, through the Venezuelan Red Cross. The funds will be used to complement the humanitarian action that the Venezuelan Red Cross has been carrying out in the area, to assist families affected by the floods since July 2, in different areas such as health, risk management, pre-hospital care, reestablishing family contact, and water and sanitation.

This support is intended to strengthen the project “Responding to the needs of families affected by the rains in Cumanacoa for access to safe water”, which is currently being implemented by the Venezuelan Red Cross, starting with the installation of a 30,000-liter water treatment plant, which will benefit more than 1,500 families. Banesco’s donation will help the community acquire 200-liter water tanks and hydropneumatic pumps to improve access to safe water for 500 families in the community of La Vía, in Cumanacoa.

“In times of need, solidarity is a necessary act to overcome tragedies and contribute to the well-being of those affected. In situations similar to those currently experienced by the community of Cumanacoa, Banesco has always shown its interest in helping and this occasion might not be different. Through the Venezuelan Red Cross, a neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian organization, we found a way to reach the affected community in an efficient and timely manner,” said the President of the Board of Directors of Banesco, Marco Ortega Vargas.

For his part, the president of the Venezuelan Red Cross, Luis Manuel Farías, added: “The Red Cross has been present from the very beginning in Cumanacoa and this donation from Banesco means a great step forward because it helps us strengthen the operation that we were already carrying out in water and sanitation. Thanks to Banesco and our volunteers we will be able to guarantee that 500 families can store safe water.”

Since July 2, the Venezuelan Red Cross has responded to the situation in Cumaná in

coordination with the competent national and regional authorities, deploying more than 80 volunteers in the different affected areas to meet the needs of the affected sectors, with health days, donations of medical supplies and cleaning and hygiene kits for 700 families.
