Baltimore Mayor wants youth curfew

After fighting between groups of youth in the US city of Baltimore, Mayor Brandon Scott is planning a curfew for young people in the coming summer months. More than 200 young people gathered in the Inner Harbor on Sunday evening, and fighting broke out among them.

As police tried to separate the fighters, shots were fired, wounding two youths, one of them seriously, WBAL-TV reported. Mayor Brandon Scott then declared that he wanted to impose a curfew.

In the coming summer months, Scott wants to impose a 9 p.m. curfew for under-14s and a 10 p.m. curfew for under-17s, WJZ-TV reported.

The mayor explained that he had seen too many small children far from their homes at night. “It’s not just regarding getting them off the streets, it’s regarding supporting them and finding out what’s going on with them and their families.”
