On July 27, a large number of people were leaving in convoys from Karachi and Dera Ghazi Khan, including Balochistan, to participate in the protest organized at Godar on the call of the Baloch Solidarity Committee, when they were stopped at various points.

The Baloch Unity Committee claimed that people participating in their convoys were tortured at various places, while in Mastung, a convoy was fired upon, injuring around 14 people.

Bibagar Baloch, the leader of the Baloch Solidarity Committee, said in a conversation with Independent Urdu that on July 27, at around one o’clock in the afternoon, he was stopped near Sona Khan police station, the last boundary of Quetta, while going from Quetta to Godar.

“We were taking an alternate route from Dasht to Musong when our convoy was fired upon at Mastung, injuring 14 people, one of whom is currently in Qoma and three are seriously injured.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti told the provincial assembly about the obstacles in front of the caravans participating in the protest that a delegation is coming to Godar these days and there are activities related to CPEC, so it is not appropriate to hold this gathering.

He further said that the organizers of the protest did not even get any permission from the district administration.

After the Mastung incident, the participants of the caravans going to Gwadar for the purpose of protest started sit-ins wherever they were, which are still going on.

These sit-ins are taking place in Quetta, Godar, Turbat, Nushki and Dalbandin and many other areas.

On the orders of the provincial government, the district administration has closed the entrances of Turbat and Godar in view of these sit-ins, while mobile and internet facilities have also been disconnected in these areas.

The communication system has been cut off in Turbat, Gwadram Panjgur and surrounding areas and no one has been able to contact their loved ones outside these areas.

However, PTCL’s landline was restored in Godar on Sunday and PTCL’s fiber flash internet is also working at certain locations.

From July 27 to August 5, Godar, Turbat and Panjgur districts of Makran were also cut off from land connection with major cities, due to which food crisis has arisen in these cities.

In this regard, Ismail Umar, a journalist from Godar, told Independent Adro that the last time since the evening of July 27, the internet has not been working, nor has the mobile phone.

He said that his brother was arrested several days ago but he came to know on Sunday due to suspension of internet and mobile phone services.

Bibagar Baloch expressed regret that Balochistan government used to negotiate on one side and then the arrests of their workers are also going on.

Balochistan Interior Minister Ziaullah Longo in a statement alleged that the protesters ransacked Quetta while the government did not lose patience.

“But they gave a call for protest in Gwadar, on which the government negotiated with them and accepted their demands but the sit-in was not ended.”
