Surprise announcement at Bally. After joining the Swiss luxury shoemaker in early 2022, Rhuigi Villaseñor is leaving the creative direction. The studio will take care of the interim pending a new organization. The house, owned by JAB Holding Company, and the Californian designer of Filipino origin have decided by mutual and common agreement to end their collaboration, the brand announced in a press release, without giving further explanation.
The appointment in January 2022 of the designer, who founded the high-end streetwear brand Rhude in 2015, was surprising, especially since the latter was trying his hand at women’s ready-to-wear for the first time. In his role as artistic director of Bally, he was only able to realize two collections. Time to sketch an ultra-sophisticated and sexy woman who loves leather pieces with character. Bringing the venerable Swiss house back to the catwalks following 21 years, it has increased its visibility by repositioning it in the high end, while dusting off its image.
“I would like to thank Rhuigi for all his creative contributions during his time at Bally. His passion, energy and creativity have helped propel Bally into the limelight, further rejuvenating the brand’s 170-year heritage through a modern vision. and glamorous. I wish him the best for the next chapter of his creative journey”, comments the CEO of the shoe label, Nicolas Girotto.
For the rest, the house just indicates that its design will be piloted by the internal studio “until a new creative organization is announced”.
In the meantime, the brand already has a new creative project in the pipeline with Adrien Brody. Bally recruited the Oscar-winning American actor last March, known for his performance in The pianist by Roman Polanski, to produce several capsule collections, the first of which should be marketed by the end of 2023.
