Lolita Laporta celebrates her 103rd anniversary today accompanied by Baruk, her Yorkshire dogThey both live in an apartment in Barcelona, Spain.
Laporta became known in the fashion world in the early 1940s when she was discovered by Cristóbal Balenciaga.at that time the designer, who is synonymous with luxury, had just set up his studio in Barcelona.

Lolita worked for Balenciaga for three years at the headquarters in Madrid, San Sebastián and Barcelonauntil she made a girlfriend of whoever was her husband and decided to leave the Basque.
This is how Laporta remembers his meeting with the Basque designer:
“One day, walking down the street, I met a friend who said ‘are you still working as a model?’ I answered yes. She recommended me to look at Balenciaga because she was the main model for her and she was going to move to Amécica”.
“When I arrived, he looked me up and down and said: ‘Come on Monday.’ And I stayed with him.”
Lolita confesses that Balenciaga was a wonderful man, but he rarely smiled:
“Wonderful of character, kindness, education, attentive, affectionate… Of course, he didn’t smile very much, but when he did, he was a delight. The clients raffled it off. It was very good”.

Laporta also modeled for Pedro Rodríguezresponsible for the uniforms of the Iberia stewardesses.
In the 40s and 50s modeling was not as well seen as it is now, it was related to “indecent” women:
“Fortunately my parents were very modern, says Lilita, they were separated and I did what I wanted.”
For her day to day Lolita relies on her niece Montserrat, 68 years old, and in a service girl who helps him with the housework. She remembers her time as a model with great affection and is satisfied with what she achieved.

Lolita Laporta modeled for 25 years and remembers that Balenciaga gave her three dresses with which she wore on the catwalksbut the expensive clothes were lost between moving and moving.
