Baldur’s Gate III, Larian Studios’ highly anticipated sequel to the Bioware classic, is now enjoying a huge success. The Early Access version sold 2.5 million copies prior to its release last Friday, and just days following launch, it has more than 800,000 concurrent players on Steam (!). But then it’s also been in development for over six years, with 17,000 different endings and 2,000 unique characters to interact with. All in all, a wildly ambitious game that clearly lives up to the hype. However, Larian Studios boss Swen Vincke revealed in a recent interview with Bloomberg that the next game will certainly not have the same importance. Vincke said he doesn’t yet know what Larian will do next, though he hinted that he’d like to work on multiple games, expressing hopes of doing something smaller next time. He certainly didn’t want to spend another six years developing a game, he said. We already knew Larian would be working on another Divinity game at some point, but it doesn’t appear that the next title in its acclaimed series won’t be on the same scale as Baldur’s Gate III. What would you like to see next from Larian?
