Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 Preliminary Notes

We’re aiming to release Patch 5 this week, which fixes the eternally-active acts of thefts & violence causing slowdowns, introduced in the previous patch. It also fixes Astarion’s little kisses, and more! pic.twitter.com/APRAPdSouN

“In Patch 4, we introduced a fix that prevented the Searching Eyes in Highmoon Towers from immediately calling the guards in the event of a theft. Even if you were sneaking around or invisible, for example.”
This fix had the unintended consequence of causing unnoticed thefts and vandalism to remain stuck in the “has anyone seen me” queue indefinitely, instead of expiring and to move on, as planned. In fact, your “GM” constantly thinks regarding the acts of theft and violence that the player continues to commit, without ever moving on or verbalizing them. He thinks regarding it ad infinitum.
These unnoticed and eternally active acts of theft and violence eventually slowed down the game. The more a player commits these acts, the more the game tries to keep everything up to date and in memory. And so the slowdowns start to happen. Ultimately, the “GM” ends up unable to function. By the third act, this caused slowdown issues. After some research, we’re extremely happy to say that we’ve fixed this in Patch 5, which is in testing and scheduled for release this week.”
