Few choose the wrong

In an interview with the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3, the topic of the path of good and evil came up. The chief developer and founder of the studio, swen vincke, talked about what the Early Access data showed, regarding player choice. He said he did not enjoy watching this kind of information:

I prefer not to look at this data, because it will influence decisions. We have things that are incredibly expensive and only 0.00001% of players will see them, but that’s how I want the game to go.

I study them Running seems to want to take into account the decisions of each of the players, whether good or bad, which leads to investing more development effort in every detail. The process remains the same for unpopular routes. In other words, passages considered “extremely evil” have received the same attention as moments in the path of good, even if very few players choose them.

Being mean is really a lot of work. We put it in the game because it was important for us to really have a choice. Every decision has to lead somewhere.

Statistically, most people don’t play bad anyway. If 95% of your target group plays good and only 5% plays bad, the work isn’t worth it. But even if they are few, I think it is important to have the choice, otherwise the decisions are worthless.
