For several months now, Larian Studios has been teasing the arrival of an extraordinary character among the so-called “Origin” heroes of the starting cast of Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s via free play Blood In Baldur’s Gate that we have been able to have the first elements concerning the one called “Dark Pulses”. As its name suggests, the adventure of Sombres Instincts will be bloody, brutal and tortured. A great program in perspective.
Drak the Ripper
By default, Sombres Instincts will be a Drakeid, a draconic creature with a humanoid appearance, a real serial killer guided by impulses (precisely) bloodthirsty. Little twist however, this anti-hero will begin the storyline with amnesia, following the passage of a parasitic tadpole in his brain. This will not prevent him from continuing to feel the need to kill, which will appear in his dialogue choices through very specific options. Larian Studios clarifies that “As this character, players will be driven to commit some of the most horrific acts of violence they will encounter in the game. They will have to choose between giving in to their most evil impulses or trying to resist them.“. And even if it means pushing you to behave as vile as possible, Sombres Instincts will be accompanied by a sadistic version of Jiminy Cricket: Sceleritas Fel (played by Brian Bowles), the Drakeid’s servant, who will only live to incite you to commit the worst deeds. Let’s not forget that this Dexter in power will still have to lead a group of adventurers towards a heroic quest…
Larian added a second dose of assassin, introducing the character of Orin the Red (voiced by Maggie Robertson). This one is a shapeshifter with a passion for murder, assassination and mass slaughter. Very healthy activities. The developers have clarified that players should encounter Orin quite early in the adventure, but under conditions that still remain mysterious.

After this dose of blood, Larian Studios decided to celebrate love. Baldur’s Gate obliges, there will be romance, and we will be able to weave friendly relations, then more if affinities, with our companions and fellow travelers. Adam Smith, Lead Writer on BG3explained that these relationships should satisfy most gamers, regardless of gender, sex, orientation and fantasy:
Have you ever considered the joys and pleasures of having sex with a druid in his wild form? At Larian, we did, and we ultimately chose to give people what they want: a tender, consensual romance with a man temporarily turned into a grizzly bear.
The conference was also an opportunity to take stock of the customization capabilities that will be offered to players. These should be much more developed than in previous games, leaving complete freedom in customizing a custom avatar.
Baldur’s Gate 3 character creation
The identity of the main character is at the center of Baldur’s Gate 3, and its character creator allows customization of everything from the protagonist’s appearance to their stats and background. The character creator opens up endless possibilities, whether the protagonist is a hero, a villain, or Ed Sharran, a simple bard roaming the roads of Faerûn with his trusty lute and victim of an unbounded darkness that eats away at him from within.
At launch, players will be able to experience even more ways to create diverse and varied characters with the following additions:

Adventurers don’t have to be thin or young. The addition of an age slider will allow for an older protagonist and the different body types offered will give players the freedom to choose taller bodies for all genders.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released from Early Access on August 3, 2023 on PC. Larian Studios’ RPG will arrive on September 6 on PS5, and an Xbox Series version is still in the works. Pre-orders for the PS5 and PC collector versions of BG3 are available on Larian’s website.
