The excess of sugar contained in certain drinks might impact the appearance of baldness according to a Chinese study.
If shampoos, treatments and cuts are essential, the good health of our hair depends on other elements. And one of the most surprising is… our diet.
Indeed, what we eat contributes to the beauty but also to the strength of our hair. Thus, foods like fish, egg yolks or fruits are good for our hair. However, having a diet too rich in certain elements can promote the development of dandruff or make the hair too oily.
A Chinese study recently published in the journal Nutrients looked at the potential links between diet and hair health. However, the researchers found that baldness might be accelerated in men consuming a lot of sugary drinks.
An observation made on a large panel of men, including young people
To reach this conclusion, the Chinese researchers formed a panel of nearly 1,100 participants, all of whom were male. The latter first havegiven some information regarding their eating habits to scientists. Then they have analyzed in detail their hair health. Finally, they compared these data with those concerning food.
It appears that men with incipient or more advanced baldness drank a lot of sugary drinks. The term includes all kinds of drinks ranging from sodas to fruit juices. Moreover, the younger the men consume it, the greater the risk of developing baldness later on.
Nevertheless, this is a first study on the subject. The researchers therefore know that further studies will have to confirm these results. Moreover, nothing specifies if these effects can also concern women and accelerate the loss of their hair.
Avoid baldness and other health problems by changing consumption habits
Although this is only a first study, it is indicative of the dangers of a poor diet for our hair. Moreover, the researchers highlight an important point: prevention.
“Emphasizing that the consumption of sugary drinks might have a negative effect on appearance might attract the attention of the young population and encourage a reduction in consumption. And this does not only concern the risks for the hair but for the whole body.
We must not forget that an excess of sugary drinks can facilitate the development of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity. In addition, if hair loss is observed, solutions exist to slow it down. However, avoiding excessive consumption of these drinks remains the first step in avoiding premature baldness.
