Finding Fitness as a dad: One Entrepreneur’s Journey to Sustainable Wellness
Becoming a parent is a transformative experience, often prompting a reevaluation of priorities, including health and well-being. For Shrini Viswanath, co-founder of wealth management platform upstox, the arrival of his daughter was a catalyst for a profound fitness journey. “Parenthood was dawning upon me,” Viswanath explains, “and one of my main goals was to ensure I was in good shape to spend quality time wiht my daughter. As an entrepreneur, time is a precious commodity, so I wanted the time I had with her to be meaningful.” He recognizes the common concerns of new parents: avoiding back pain from carrying their child and having enough energy for playtime. “Becoming a father was a huge motivator,” Viswanath acknowledges. “It also made me realize that we often neglect our mental, emotional, and physical well-being while striving for career success. We talk about mental health, but how do we put those principles into practice?” He decided to take on a challenge, a sustainable journey toward fitness. “I have a ‘startup’ at home now – my daughter,” he laughs.”She’ll take up a lot of my time. I couldn’t commit to something unsustainable.” Viswanath emphasizes the importance of sustainability, avoiding speedy fixes and unrealistic expectations. His approach prioritizes long-term lifestyle changes.A Focus on Nutrition and Simple Habits
Viswanath made nutrition a top priority, consulting with a nutritionist to learn how to eat healthily. While he saw physical improvements, he didn’t spend excessive hours at the gym, aiming for just two and a half to three hours per week. The biggest change was his diet. “I started eating home-cooked meals, focusing on whole foods, more vegetables, and whole grains,” he says. He even deleted food delivery apps, recognizing the lack of nutritional value in many takeout options. Hydration and daily steps were also key. Viswanath ensured he drank enough water and incorporated movement into his routine without having to leave the house, emphasizing the importance of sustainable habits.Finding Balance: A chat on Health and Wellbeing with a Busy Dad
In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining a healthy work-life balance can feel like an uphill battle. we spoke to a accomplished entrepreneur and father who shared insightful tips on prioritizing personal well-being amidst a demanding career and family life. He emphasized the importance of incorporating movement into his daily routine, even aiming for 8,000 steps a day without needing to step out of the office. His strategy involved minimizing prolonged periods of sitting by opting to stand or take short walks during work hours. When asked about managing well-being with a newborn, he stressed the significance of prioritizing sleep and finding healthy stress relievers. Resisting the temptation of junk food, he discovered, helped him maintain consistent energy levels and focus. “When I got stressed, which is a big thing to handle a newborn – it’s the first big change in your life – I tried not to turn to junk food as it’s like a stress buster. In the long run your energy levels and everything will be much better if you resist the temptation,” he explained. For those with sedentary jobs, he recommends investing in a standing desk or simply making a conscious effort to stand more throughout the day. Staying hydrated is another key aspect, which he achieves by keeping a full water bottle within reach. He believes that self-care is a conscious choice, just like choosing a career path. “We don’t actively talk about it, but we need to realize that we need to work on it,” he states. The entrepreneur also shared valuable advice for startups looking to prioritize employee well-being. Recognizing the immense effort employees put into balancing work and family life, especially parents, is crucial. “First of all, I think, of course, we have this maternity, paternity leave and everything. But unless you go through it personally, you realize what effort people make to be both parents at home and to be co-workers in the office space. So I think one is just first recognize that these people are going above and beyond,” he says. We live in an age where the lines between work and home life are increasingly blurred.this has led to a surge in discussions about toxic work cultures and the importance of fostering healthier workplaces. “You live in the facts age. So probably even as of covid, the lines between work and home have been blurred. what is work and what is home has been blurred and because everybody has a cell phone or a laptop,” notes one leader. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to this challenge, as each company culture is unique. Though, open communication and adaptability are essential. “I think people aspire for different things and these kind of things best are addressed by actually openly talking about it.How do you foster high performance but also get that work-life balance coming in there? I think companies have to be - everyone has to be – more conscious,” the leader emphasizes. The leader also recognizes the evolving nature of work. “we live in an age where home and work are going to be blurred. So if that’s going to be the case in some companies, then openly talk about what that is. Set the ground rules and then address it from there,” they suggest. Beyond the workplace, the leader reflects on their own journey as a parent.”I think being a parent is a full-time job, so I have a lot of respect for folks who have a job at home and a job at work right, especially working mothers,” they confess. the experience has given them a newfound thankfulness for the challenges faced by working mothers. “I think with at least men after paternity leave they come back to office and they move on in their career. But I think for working mothers for some reason I feel like the work never actually stops. It’s not that after the maternity leave they go back to life the way it was.So being in that firsthand,I’m realizing that and I have a lot more appreciation for that,” they note.Times of India Implements Data Tracking and Customer Feedback Tools
The Times of India (TOI), India’s prominent English-language daily newspaper, has integrated several data tracking and customer feedback tools into its website.Facebook Pixel and google Analytics
The news organization implemented the Facebook Pixel to track website visitor behavior and create targeted advertising campaigns. Additionally, TOI is leveraging google analytics, a tool that provides comprehensive website traffic data and user insights.Survicate for User feedback
To gather user feedback and enhance the user experience, TOI has incorporated Survicate, a platform for creating and deploying online surveys. This tool allows the newspaper to collect valuable insights from its readership, enabling them to tailor content and features to better meet user needs. “We believe in continuously improving our offerings and understanding our audience,” said a Times of India spokesperson. ”These tools provide us with the necessary insights to deliver a more engaging and personalized experience for our readers.”This snippet of code demonstrates a function called plusevents
, designed to manage event tracking and user experience customizations on a website. It intelligently adapts its behavior based on user subscription status and specific site configurations.
Initially, the code checks if certain site setting parameters are available and if the user is not a premium subscriber. If both conditions are met, it proceeds to load Google Analytics (gtag), Facebook Pixel (FBEvents), and Survicate (a user feedback tool) scripts. These scripts are responsible for tracking user interactions, running marketing campaigns, and gathering user feedback, respectively.
Alternatively, if the user is a premium subscriber or the initial site settings are not available, the code fetches them from a remote server using a URL. This ensures that both free and premium users have tailored experiences.
Once the configuration is successfully retrieved, the script again proceeds to load the appropriate scripts based on the values received from the server. This dynamic loading ensures that the website functions correctly while optimizing performance and providing a personalized user experience.
