Balance sheet: Over 41,000 VOR KlimaTickets sold

Inexpensive tariffs and an optimized offer as the basis for a successful mobility turnaround

Lower Austria/Burgenland/Vienna (OTS) The Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) and its owners Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland have been offering unbeatably cheap annual tickets for public transport with the VOR KlimaTickets since October 2021. Over 41,000 VOR KlimaTickets sold (as of the end of December 2022) confirm the trend towards environmentally and climate-friendly public transport in Austria’s largest mobility region. Year-on-year, this represents a 70 percent increase compared to December 2021, with sales up 16 percent in the final quarter of 2022 alone.

In 2021, the VOR KlimaTickets “Region” for Lower Austria and Burgenland and “MetropolRegion” for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, tailored to the regional needs of people, were implemented in parallel with the KlimaTicket Austria. The subsidized offer of a combination of VOR KlimaTicket Region and KlimaTicket Steiermark is also specially tailored to the needs of many commuters in Burgenland, which is subsidized for commuters with their main residence in Burgenland with € 223 per year. The KlimaTicket Austria is also recognized in the VOR area. As of December 2022, almost 130,000 tickets were sold here by the responsible one mobility GmbH.

Finance City Councilor Peter Hanke (Vienna): The pioneering role of the metropolis Vienna confirmed

“In Vienna, a public transport ticket was introduced in 2012 with the 365-euro annual ticket, which is now seen as a pioneer for the successful KlimaTickets. Increasing passenger numbers confirm the success of our approach”.

Mobility Provincial Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko (Lower Austria): Interplay of offer, tariff and communication lead to success

“Hundreds of thousands of people are on the move every day in the federal state of Lower Austria who, in addition to cheap tickets, above all need a range of buses, trains and smart forms of public transport tailored to their needs. We are investing heavily in demand-driven transport, which helps to bridge the “first” and “last mile”. The challenge of the coming years will be to bring even more people closer to this modern overall offer”.

Transport Minister Heinrich Dorner (Burgenland): Responding to people’s needs

“It is important that what is on offer meets people’s needs. That is why we are investing in Burgenland in tailor-made solutions for our citizens, such as the very successful Südburgenlandbus. This is the only way to achieve a sustainable transition to climate-friendly mobility”.

Around 60% of domestic passengers using public transport are currently traveling in the VOR, and this is where the decisive course is set in the direction of the mobility turnaround. More than 30 bus and rail transport companies in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland provide more than 250 million km of high-quality transport services on around 900 lines every year.
