Balachandra Menon was born on January 11, 1954. School life in Paravur and Kottarakkara. College life started at Fatima Mata College, Kollam. After that, he completed his undergraduate studies at University College, Thiruvananthapuram and post-graduation in Journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Institute of Journalism. He started acting and directing through school and college plays.
He became a film reporter when his love for cinema became intense. In 1978, he directed his first film “Uthara Ratri”.
