Azerbaijan’s Yashar Najafov won in -66 kg during the first day of the Grand Slam in Baku on Friday.

Local judo fans were enthusiastic, cheering on local judokas and participating in activities organized by the local federation.

In the under 48 kg category, world number 1 Assunta Scutto faced local favorite Leyla Aliyeva. Although Aliyeva put up an incredibly tough fight, the Italian superstar ultimately took home the gold.
