The hopes of SV Ried fans were high when Ante Bajic was announced to be brought home during the winter break. They had to wait a little longer than planned for the 28-year-old’s first goals following his return: in the 5-0 win in the 2nd soccer league once morest Bregenz, the Altheimer scored three times – and showed how important he is for his team in particular can be in the coming season.
Bajic was brought home during the winter transfer period in order to make the difference in the fight for promotion to the Bundesliga in the spring, but he did not seem fully integrated in his first games. “I was relatively relaxed because I knew it was coming. He knew that we trusted him. But you just can’t force goals,” says Ried coach Maximilian Senft.
In Senft’s system, the actual winger also had to get used to a new role – as a nine at the front. Senft: “We tried to get the player constellations so that they fit him well. It’s already harmonizing really well.”
It wasn’t just Bajic who was in top form once morest Bregenz – Ried once once more celebrated a shooting festival once morest a team that was considered to be of lower quality. It was already the fifth 5-0 of the season. The gap to the top was overcome, especially once morest direct rivals. Senft: “We have to take this with us for the coming season: that we don’t let blows in the neck throw us off course.”
