In addition to making content downloadable on a select basis or based on the next episode of a series, Netflix also offers the ‘Downloads for You’ feature for offline playback. Today, continuing our table of tips and tutorials, check out how to activate the function on your account and use it on your device.
Netflix makes the ‘Smart Downloads‘ feature available to its subscribers. Through it, service users can configure the platform so that the next episode of a series is automatically downloaded – but the advantages of the function don’t stop there.
Another feature option is the aforementioned ‘Downloads for you’. With it, streaming downloads films and series based on your tastes so you can watch offline. So, even if you are without an internet connection, such as on flights or in remote areas, you don’t run the risk of running out of something to see.
So far, the function is only available through the platform’s application for Android and iOS. According to Netflix itself, the feature not available for the ad-supported service plan and by default it only works when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Without further ado, check out how to activate the function below:
- With the Netflix app open on your device and your profile selected, tap “My Netflix”;
- Now, tap on the Menuat the top of the screen;
- Tap “Application Settings”;
- In the new menu, tap “Smart Downloads”;
- Activate the option switch “Downloads for you”;
- With the option activated, use the ‘+’ e ‘–‘ to regulate the amount of storage that can be used by the app for downloads in each profile.
If you only use one profile on the device in question, make the desired storage space available only for that profile. According to Netflix itself, 0.25 GB (or 250 MB) is usually the equivalent of 1 hour of content downloaded in standard quality.
It is worth remembering that the feature is optional. If you believe that the recommendations – and consequently, the automatic downloads – of the function are not to your taste, you can deactivate it at any time.
