The government broke its silence to comment on the mass migration attempts that took place in the city of Fnideq at the end of last week.
In this context, the official government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, expressed his regret over what happened in Fnideq, stressing that the public authorities thwarted all attempts to cross to the other side.
In response to journalists’ questions at the conference following the government council’s work, on Thursday, Baitas accused unknown parties of inciting some young people by exploiting social media to mobilize them, noting that 152 people had been brought to justice as part of the fight against calls to incite illegal immigration.
The same government official explained that “the number of people who attempted illegal immigration reached nearly 3,000 people,” noting “the great professionalism with which the public forces dealt, in full respect of legal controls,” as they “were characterized by wisdom, and were keen on the safety of this group, as no deaths were recorded among those who were candidates for immigration.”
Regarding the circulated photo following the thwarting of a mass storming attempt at the border crossing between Fnideq and occupied Ceuta, the government official stated that it is the subject of an investigation by the competent authorities, adding that “the problem of immigration is a phenomenon present in various countries of the world.”
As for the calls to question the government in parliament about these events, the official government spokesman stated that “Parliament’s request for the government to appear for questioning is not a problem, as the legislative institution has the right to monitor the work of the government, and the latter complies,” stressing that “Parliament is doing its job, and this is a positive thing, and the government has no problem responding within the framework of the law.”
