The CISSS de la Côte-Nord announced that staff from other health institutions have filled several nursing shifts in recent days, thus averting the closure of services.

However, CISSS did not specify how long service disruptions can be avoided.

Doctors, for their part, are not reassured. The head of the department also emphasized that the emergency closures of Forestville and Escumin put additional pressure on Baicomo.

Since the health crisis began, local doctors have been forced to transfer patients to other areas due to a shortage of hospital beds.

“As we have said, we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate more than five patients on a stretcher, and our minimum capacity is ten. This is the kind of care he should be able to receive in this area,” explained Dr. Stephanie Thibault, director of the emergency department at Le Roye Hospital.

Remember, last week, about a dozen doctors from across the North Shore decried the situation in emergency rooms, going so far as to say we were “playing Russian roulette” with the population.

Stephanie Thibault implored Minister Dube to find a long-term solution that meets regional realities.

She insists the North Shore is the first region to speak out about the issue, but the fight will undoubtedly be dominated by other regions in the coming weeks.
