Baidoo goes from Sogndal to RB Salzburg – sold for a huge sum

Sogndal and Salzburg confirm the sale of Baidoo in their media channels.

– A sale like this is important for Sogndal Football and will secure and create calm around the operation. Now we can look ahead and make plans that look after the club and the sporting venture in the coming years. The economics of this agreement are so great that it was a strategically correct choice to carry out the sale, says managing director Gisle Olsen.

Sports manager Terje Skjeldestad says Sogndal wanted to keep Baidoo longer, but:

– It is only natural that he moves on now, even if it is a bit painful for everyone who is happy in Sogndal. We are very happy with what he has contributed and of course what he is leaving behind. He has shown that it is possible to go from small Sogndal to big clubs, he says.

Praised

Salzburg’s sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner is full of praise for the new signing.

– In Baidoo, we have signed a very exciting player who, despite his young age, has already impressed in senior football. He has a good combination of speed and technique, he says and adds:

– He was directly involved in many goals at his former club, and we are convinced that he will also show these qualities with us. We are looking forward to seeing Edmund, but we will also give him the time he needs to get used to Austrian football.

The online newspaper has previously announced that the transfer will have a total package of around NOK 50 million. The Ghanaian is said to have also been on the block for Premier League clubs Wolverhampton, Brighton and Everton.

In addition to the transfer fee, Sogndal must be guaranteed a resale clause of 15 percent.

Confirmed calls

On Saturday, Sogndal stated that the team was in talks with a foreign club about the great talent. It was in connection with Baidoo not being included in the squad for the weekend’s match against Ranheim.

The 18-year-old arrived in Sogndal earlier this season and immediately excelled in his league debut against Vålerenga, when he was behind a goal-scoring pass.

In total, Baidoo has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 19 games for Sogndal in the 1st division.
