Bahrain Marks a Historic Achievement on the World Stage

According to BNA, the Kingdom of Bahrain came in the first and highest group globally with a classification of “First Category – Leading Model” in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) for the year 2024 issued by the International Telecommunication Union of the United Nations specialized in information and communication technology, which includes the ranking of (194) countries globally in the Global Cybersecurity Index.

On this occasion, the CEO of the National Cyber ​​Security Centre in Bahrain, Sheikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, stressed that this distinguished global achievement comes as a result of the support enjoyed by the cybersecurity system during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He also praised the efforts of Lieutenant-General Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Secretary-General of the Supreme Defence Council and Commander of the Royal Guard, to enhance the digital infrastructure that supports cyber readiness in the Kingdom and to keep pace with developments in cybersecurity as a pivotal pillar for advancing national security and driving economic development.

Sheikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa explained that these advanced indicators reflect the level of data protection, networks and advanced infrastructure enjoyed by the Kingdom of Bahrain, in line with its national strategic objectives for cybersecurity, which include basic pillars that represent an integrated framework that maintains a safe and reliable cyberspace in the Kingdom, thus consolidating its position on the map of security technology and data protection progress.

He pointed out the initiatives and plans adopted by the Kingdom that encourage continued innovation and creativity through the qualification of specialized national cadres, in addition to the optimal investment of promising opportunities in order to reach a safe and reliable cyberspace, in line with the objectives of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

It is worth noting that the Cybersecurity Index measures the level of countries’ commitment to cybersecurity requirements and measures worldwide within five axes: legal, technical and technological, regulatory, capacity development, and cooperation, and according to five categories within the classification mechanism.

The Kingdom of Bahrain ranked first internationally after obtaining an overall score between 95 and 100, which classifies it as a “leading model.” It also obtained a full score in 4 of the 5 axes mentioned in the classification mechanism.
