Bahrain Culture and Antiquities concludes its participation in the Gulf Film Festival in Riyadh

Bahraini artist Maryam Zeman wins best actress award for her role in ‘My Word’
The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities successfully concluded its participation in the fourth session of the Gulf Film Festival, held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The closing ceremony saw the announcement of the winners of the festival awards, for which 29 films from different Gulf countries were in competition. The Best Actress award was won by renowned Bahraini artist Maryam Zeman for her role in the Bahraini feature film “My Word”, directed by Mahmoud Al-Sheikh.

On this occasion, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, congratulated artist Maryam Zeman, praising her valuable artistic works and her efforts to enrich the Kingdom’s cinema movement of Bahrain, noting that this victory reflects recognition of the high level reached by Bahraini creativity, highlighting the Authority’s commitment to encouraging and supporting the Kingdom’s cinematic talents in order to strengthen the cultural movement.

The Gulf Film Festival kicked off early last week with a strong presence of artists and creators from various Gulf countries and was organized by the Saudi Film Authority in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council of the Gulf.

Artist Maryam Zeman’s victory is the Kingdom of Bahrain’s second achievement at the festival this year. During the opening, director Hussein Al-Rifai was honored among a group of Gulf cinema personalities.

Among the 29 films screened at the festival, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities screened a number of films: The Mermaid by director Mohammed Ateeq, The Doorstep by director Saleh Nass, the documentary The Voice of the Feather by director Maryam Abdel Ghaffar, and the documentary Vision of the Promise – Salman bin Hamad by director Eva Daoud In addition to the feature film My Word, directed by Mahmoud Al-Sheikh.

It should be noted that the festival is considered part of the Film Authority’s initiatives aimed at improving the level of film production and artistic skills at the local and regional levels, which contributes to the development of cultural and cognitive dialogue between stakeholders in the cinema and highlights the importance of this field as a voice that promotes Gulf creativity and art.
