Every year, the Gorges du Verdon (south of France) attract many tourists from all over the world. Belgians go there in particular to take advantage of the nautical activities. But this year, few activities will be allowed.
The lack of precipitation has reduced the size of the lake. “A few years ago, the water was so high that we managed to attach our pedal boats to our pylons”, regrets to the Figaro a nautical leisure operator in front of the lake which has been dry for months. Due to the lack of water, rafting will be prohibited there this summer.
While swimming is still permitted at the time of this writing, it may not be for long. Indeed, the mayor of Saint-André-les-Alpes is reluctantly considering banning holidaymakers from swimming in the lake. For its part, the water park will not even open. And the pontoon where electric boats and other pedal boats are rented does not have its feet in the water.
The water level of the lake is five meters below the usual average, which poses security problems. The water is murky due to sediment accumulated by the dam and mud covers the ground. “Developments might see the light of day during the summer to allow swimming, such as the establishment of a pebble bed at the bottom of the water.entrusts to our colleagues from Figaro, Gilles Gravier from the Gorges du Verdon Tourist Office.
