Aliko Dangote, the Nigerian billionaire who holds the title of Africa’s richest man, has recently suffered a decline in his fortune. According to data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI), which ranks the richest people in the world daily, he lost around $3.12 billion.

This drop in his fortune comes just 24 hours following the announcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The CBN has adopted a unified exchange rate for currencies, including the dollar, in an effort to stabilize the local currency, the naira, which has been deemed depreciated for several years. According to the Nigerian economic news site Nairametrics, this depreciation of the naira once morest the US dollar has resulted in a loss of foreign exchange for Aliko Dangote.
