Bad Darna case: Victims urge justice to speed up conviction of defendants and return of embezzled money

Dozens of victims of the Bab Darna group, whose leaders are currently in detention in the Oukacha civil prison in Casablanca, demonstrated on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, in front of the Casablanca Court of Appeal. A demonstration that lasted several hours until around 6 p.m. The demonstrators, including MREs, chanted slogans calling on justice to speed up the legal proceedings once morest the main defendants. They also demanded that their embezzled money be returned to them as soon as possible. Pursued under arrest, Mohamed El Ouardi, CEO of the real estate group Bab Darna, is suspected of having transferred the funds of his victims to Panama. The National Judicial Police Brigade in Casablanca has opened an investigation into the new charges.

During a meeting with Attorney General Hassan Daki, representatives of the victims of the Bab Darna scandal discussed the embezzlement of funds by Mohamed El Ouardi to Panama and requested the opening of an investigation. They claim that the owner of the real estate company used the funds in a Panamanian investment group called “BOD CAPITAL”, whose headquarters are in Panama. The public prosecutor entrusted the investigation to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police of Casablanca.

These new elements follow a request from the defense of the victims during the trial of the accused before the Casablanca Court of Appeal. The defense thus requested that an expert report be carried out on the bank accounts of the companies belonging to the defendants. A request that was made following the appearance of new documents highlighting the transfer of funds between several countries. According to the explanations of the lawyer Mourad ElAddi, who filed this request, it is a question of knowing the path of the funds and the transfers made from the bank accounts of the defendants and their subsidiaries.
