This is a major discovery for the medical world, already qualified as a “revolution”. Scientists have identified bacteria potentially linked to prostate cancer, according to a study reported by
The Guardian
. Although the news is certified, they do not know if these microbes are the cause of the cancer itself. If so, they might save thousands of lives. Researchers at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, England, carried out meticulous genetic analyzes on the urine and prostate tissue of more than 600 men, with or without this pathology. In conclusion to their study, the scientific team indicated that they had found five species of bacteria linked to the rapid progression of the disease.
The study is currently unable to prove that the bacteria cause or exacerbate prostate cancer. If the work in progress confirms their role, researchers will be able to develop tests to identify the men most at risk and potentially find antibiotics to prevent this disease, the most common in male individuals, which kills thousands of people every year.
