The famous telenovela Teresa has been trending in recent days due to a wave of memes that went viral on social media. Internet users recalled the most iconic figures from the production that was aired in 2010.

Among the protagonists who stood out are Angelique Boyer in her role as “Teresa” and Silvia Mariscal as “Doña Refugio.” The latter, upon realizing the jokes made about her character, rejected them via her Instagram profile.

The memes may have made the actress uncomfortable because they criticized “Doña Refugio,” as according to users, Teresa’s mother did not want her to succeed and even obstructed opportunities for her daughter throughout the plot.

Surprisingly, Silvia Mariscal launched a controversial message through an Instastory, responding to internet users who continued laughing at Doña Refugio.

The actress posted a photograph of several dollars accompanied by the following message: “Keep watching ‘Teresa,’ I keep receiving royalties and I even have enough to support all of you,” she declared.

After the controversial moment, Mariscal immediately deactivated her account, an action noticed by all her followers. So far, fans continue to speculate whether the actress’s profile is real, as well as the shared image; however, Silvia Mariscal has not made any public statement regarding this in person.

Regarding the Mexican telenovela, the story revolves around Teresa Chávez, an ambitious and cunning young woman who, despite her humble origins, is determined to escape poverty and achieve a life filled with luxury and power. Her beauty and intelligence become her main weapons to manipulate those around her and achieve her goals.

The cast of “Teresa” includes famous actors such as Sebastián Rulli (Arturo de la Barrera), Aarón Díaz (Mariano Sánchez), and Ana Brenda Contreras (Aurora Alcázar), who complement a narrative full of unexpected twists and emotional conflicts. Just as it happened recently, Teresa remains in the collective memory of the Mexican audience, standing out not only for its performances and intense drama but also for its ability to generate discussions about the limits of ambition and ethics in the pursuit of personal success.

The production of the telenovela was by José Alberto Castro for Televisa. After the airing of the first episodes, it quickly became a television phenomenon both in Mexico and in several Spanish-speaking countries.
