Tim Stützle took the momentum from his four-point game and also shone in Ottawa’s 3-2 win over the New York Islanders. Philipp Grubauer delivers a strong performance and only loses with Seattle in the penalty shootout.
Tim Stützle is still unstoppable. After his gala performance with four points, he became the match winner once more in his Ottawa Senators’ 3-2 shootout victory once morest the New York Islanders. First, the 21-year-old international scored the goal to make it 1-1 just before the second break, before doing the preparatory work for a 2-1 lead through Brady Tkachuk with a man at the start of the final period. Stützle also converted his attempt in the penalty shoot-out and thus gave Ottawa the additional point. After 49 games, Stützle has already collected 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) and is only three points behind his personal best from the previous season. Senators goalie Kevin Mandolese had a successful NHL debut with 46 saves and was able to keep his box clean in the shootout. Despite the win, the Canadians remain seven points behind the last playoff spot held by the Washington Capitals, despite their 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Goaltender Philipp Grubauer was also named player of the game, despite a narrow loss with the Seattle Kraken 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out at the Winnipeg Jets. The 31-year-old Rosenheimer defused 38 shots and played such a significant role that Seattle still managed to take a point. While none of the Kraken shooters netted in the shootout, Mark Scheifele and Pascal Dubois converted their attempts to the Jets’ success (69 points), which earned them vital points in the fight for the top spot in the Central Division. The Seattle Kraken, who have only won one game in their last five games, currently sit third in the Pacific Division with 66 points.
Nico Sturm’s San Jose Sharks lost 3-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The German striker recorded two shots and two checks in just over 15 minutes of action. The Pens’ winners included doubles scorer Jake Guentzel, Rikard Rakell (one goal, two assists), superstar Sidney Crosby (three assists) and goaltender Casey DeSmith (38 saves).
