In a decree published on Tuesday, the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, in charge of civic education, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, unveiled the school calendar for the 2024-2025 academic year. A notable innovation, the Christmas and New Year holidays (scheduled from December 21, 2024 to January 5, 2025) which traditionally marked the first quarter are now integrated into the second quarter which begins ”prematurely” on Monday, December 9, 2024.
The upcoming school year will open with the administrative return to school, set for Monday, August 26, for public and private establishments and the following day for the network of approved public schools which will also welcome their students, on Tuesday, September 3, one day following the return to school for their counterparts in public and private schools.
The first term (12 weeks of classes) will conclude on November 30, 2024 with the submission of report cards, just one week following the end of grades set for Saturday, November 23 following classes.
The second term, which extends over 10 weeks of classes, scheduled to begin on Monday, December 9 and which now includes the Christmas and New Year holidays, will end with the submission of reports on Saturday, March 8, 2025 following classes, once once more one week following the cut-off date for grades set for Saturday, March 1is March 2025 following school. The holidays of the 2ndth The term will run from March 8 following classes to March 16, 2025, which is one week of vacation.
The end of the school year, at the end of the third quarter (from Monday March 17 to Saturday May 31, 2025, or 10 weeks of classes), determines the period of examinations which will be held between May 27 and June 30, 2025. Another ministerial decree will specify the detailed schedule of said examinations and competitions.
The end of the school year for secondary school classes with exams, particularly those in 3th and final year, will take place on June 21 and 30, 2025 respectively. For pre-primary, primary and non-exam secondary classes in all public and private schools, the end of the school year is set for Saturday, May 31, 2025 following the submission of report cards.
The decree of the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, responsible for civic training finally projects itself on the start of the 2025-2026 school year set for Monday 1is September 2025, exactly one week following the administrative start, i.e. Monday, August 25, 2025.
