THE comparison between the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has become a hot topic among Indonesian netizens.

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has indeed drawn a lot of criticism and condemnation from various parties. One of the things that has received the most attention is the organizing committee’s attempt to parody Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper”.

“It is said to be better than the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games is being widely discussed again,” wrote the Instagram account, @vacio.id quoted BetweenSaturday (17/8)

In its upload, Vacio.id featured the Ratoh Jaroe Dance from Aceh which was so stunning and continues to be remembered as one of the most interesting attractions in the opening of the sporting event.

Ratoh Jaroe Dance was designed to be performed colossally by choreographer Denny Malik. The dance is a complex dance, because approximately 1,600 dancers appear to move in unison without making a single mistake at all.

“Who gets goosebumps seeing this?” continued Vacio.id.

“It doesn’t matter the opening ceremony of the Asian Games 2018, even PON Riau is still better than PON Rian than the opening ceremony of the Olympics,” wrote @muhammad.c.hidayat.

Another netizen, @rammang.nixon assessed the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games as proving Indonesia’s capabilities. He said the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games was in a different class from the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.

“Different classes, this is the first time I realize that their culture is far behind ours,” wrote Rammang.

Another netizen, @ditha_gladys admitted to being proud to have been part of the event at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games. Ditha said that Indonesia’s success on the world stage was the result of hard work together to make the opening of the Asian Games in Jakarta a success.

“Until now, when I flashback, I can’t believe I could be part of that grand event, could bring the name of Indonesia, make it proud, masya Allah. I really miss the Asian Games moments, the training was not short, almost five months. I miss my other friends, hopefully we can have a reunion, the firendance kids,” said Ditha. (Ant/P-5)
