When will Anthony Davis return? That’s the question that continues to hover over Los Angeles. According to the latest news from the City of Angels, the Lakers superstar inside might play once more in early February.
It is the insider Shams Charania who brought the last update concerning Anthony Davis. Absent from the field since his foot injury in mid-December, AD would be regarding to start the race once more, an important milestone before gaining momentum and then returning to the courts with his Lakers friends.
“The Lakers are hoping Anthony Davis can make a comeback with a few games left before the All-Star Break, which brings us to early February.”
– Shams
Until then, the Lakers will play four out of five games at home, before leaving for a five-game road trip to the East between the end of January and February 4. We can imagine a return of Davis around February 7, when Darvin Ham’s team returns to Los Angeles to face Oklahoma City. If confirmed, it will leave general manager Rob Pelinka little time to reassess the current roster — along with Davis — ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA Trade Deadline.
The way it’s started, it looks more like the Lakers will be making minor moves rather than a big blockbuster over the next three weeks. Pelinka is quite reluctant to move his two first-round draft picks (2027 and 2029), and for the moment no big name seems really available on the transfer market to change his mind.
There is therefore a good chance that Los Angeles will enter the second half of the season with a roster similar to the current one, which should greatly limit the Lakers’ chances of playing the leading roles in the West this year. Even if Anthony Davis returns to his pre-injury MVP level…
