The baby monkey in Vienna’s Haus des Meeres is officially called Quentin: the white-headed sakis was born at the end of May. He is the first offspring of his parents Gaby and Karl. The Haus des Meeres then gave visitors the opportunity to take part in the naming process. The responsible nurses made five name suggestions, after which they voted online.
The name Quentin prevailed in the voting against Jiri, Gaston, Francis and Jorge, as the House of the Sea announced on Tuesday. At the moment, the animal is usually still clinging to its mother’s fur. In the coming weeks and months, however, he should go on a tour of discovery and discover the tropical house with his parents.
White-headed saki lady Gaby came to the House of the Sea from Schönbrunn Zoo at the end of 2021. According to the Haus des Meeres, the move is evidence of the well-functioning network between the zoos, where animal welfare and species protection are paramount. The hope of offspring was initially reserved for those responsible, because the female had behaved rather withdrawn and the male also initially kept his distance. But the relationship between the two strengthened over time and became more and more intimate.
