Babette Jandrain leaves the presidency of the PS federation of Charleroi “for private reasons”

The president of the PS federation of Charleroi leaves her functions: Babette Jandrain has informed her authorities, an office will be held this Monday, and an executive this Thursday. After the holding of a federal committee, a congress will have to be convened to ensure its succession.

“I am leaving for private reasons”explains the one who was the first woman to access these functions. “I remain 200% mobilized in my role as alderman for Commerce and the Charleroi Festival, skills that the covid crisis has not spared. But I want to rebalance political and private life, that’s the only reason for my decision”she told us this Friday.

After a verbal skid on the socialist platform of May 1 in 2018, Eric Massin had been forced to give up the presidency of the PS federation. Two young women had been called upon to replace him, Babette Jandrain from Charleroi and Florence Demacq from Montigny-le-Tilleul. Only the first presented its candidacy to obtain the endorsement of activists in September 2019, with Mourad Salhi who had just been elected Walloon deputy. The Alderman won with 64% of the vote.

Three vice-presidents from other cantons assisted him in this task: Loïc D’Haeyer (Fleurus), Sophie Mengoni at Fontaine l’Evêque and Christian Dupont at Pont-à-Celles, a perfect parity.

The mandate was still to last nearly two years. Activists will be invited to entrust it to a new candidate. This will be on the occasion of a subsequent congress.
