Babboe must stop selling its cargo bikes for the time being by order of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). After research, he concludes that hundreds of frames have been broken in recent years.

Babboe allegedly did not conduct a proper investigation and took no measures. The Dutch manufacturer must also recall most models from the NVWA. The company announced on Wednesday that it has decided to temporarily stop the sale of all cargo bikes.

Babboe and the NVWA continue to consult with each other to ensure that the requested information is provided as quickly as possible, so that sales can be resumed.

The NVWA announced last week that it was investigating cargo bikes. The cargo bikes are said to break “with great regularity” and pose risks to “fathers, mothers and children in the box”.

Former Babboe employees said otherwise RTL News that they are afraid of accidents. The news program spoke to a dozen parents with a cargo bike whose frame broke while they were riding it alone or with their children.

According to the sources, the cargo bike company is not doing enough to solve the problem. Customers are said to have sent “enough” emails stating that an accident has happened. Another source said he was surprised that there have been no deaths yet.
