The Real Madrid loses a generational talent that, as important as it is in the ACB, also counts as a training quota. This is the Spanish forward Baba Miller, one of the best of his generation at European level, who flies to try his luck in the American NCAA. He’s going to enroll following the summer at Florida State University to play there for the Seminoles.. The player has made his decision public following visiting several universities and choosing this option over what seemed like his first choice, Gonzagawhere in 2022/23 it was going to be difficult to progress due to the number of quality chips they had on their hands.
The white quarry loses Miller, one of the brightest projects they had for the future. He has been with them since 2016 and has gone from playing point guard and shooting guard to, following his growth and now being placed in 2,08 metros, do it as a forward. It is from 2004, so it already has the age of majority (18). He was born in Palma de Mallorca although he has British ancestry.
Miller began playing for Bahía San Agustín in Majorca and made a name for himself in Madrid with the Olympic District. He had been in the junior of Mariano de Pablos since 2020. This season he had placed his average PIR at 12.9, a considerable figure. In 2021 was one of the members of the squad that was proclaimed champion of the Junior Euroleague, a success that they have not been able to repeat this 2022 on Serbian lands.
With Madrid he had already made his debut as a member of the first team in that heroic victory last Christmas once morest CSKA (which ended up being eliminated from the records) in which the meringues accumulated so many casualties due to coronavirus.
Sediq Garuba, born in Spain, and Eli Ndiaye, nationalized by naturalization certificate, are other of the two national names that until now shared the Real youth academy with Miller. Baba, a member of the youth categories of the National Team, will participate this summer in the U-18 European Championship to be held in Izmir (Turkey).
“Europe is a place to compete, not to improve”
In the official statement released through his social networks Miller emphasizes Gonzaga’s interest and thanks to Madrid:
“After much thought I have made the final decision. I want to thank my family for their constant support, courage and unconditional love. I also want to thank all the entities that have shown me their interest in recent months, especially Gonzaga. Finally, I want to thank Real Madrid, and all the coaches and teammates that I have had these six years with them, which has been a beautiful journey. It’s been a tough decision to make, but I’m excited for the next step in my career. I’m going to give it all to FSU.”
ESPN has obtained other statements from the prospect Spanish in which he talks regarding how he sees his evolution and why he takes this step instead of staying:
“There was a moment in my career when I thought regarding staying in Europe, but then I decided 100% that I had to go to the United States to be better. Especially technically and physically. Europe is a place to compete, not to improve. In the United States you will improve in training and individual sessions if in the end you don’t play, something that doesn’t happen here in Europe “
