Subway Chaos: Multiple Lines Hit with Delays During Morning Rush
Thursday morning commuters faced a gauntlet of delays on several subway lines as a result of separate incidents impacting service across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. The MTA announced significant disruptions on both the B and N, Q, and R lines, leaving thousands of riders scrambling for alternative routes.
B Train Standstill Due to Double Trouble
The B train experienced a complete suspension earlier Thursday morning, grinding service to a halt between Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. The MTA attributed the shutdown to a double whammy of malfunctions: a signal problem on the Manhattan Bridge and debris obstructing the tracks near DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn.
“Officials advise taking a Q train in Brooklyn and taking a C or D train in Manhattan,” an MTA spokesperson said, directing commuters towards alternate routes.
While service eventually resumed, the B train continued to grapple with severe delays, causing frustration for countless riders during the busy morning commute.
N, Q, and R Lines Snagged by Canal Street Signal Glitch
Adding to the morning mayhem, the N, Q, and R lines also experienced widespread delays, plagued by a signal malfunction near Canal Street. The disruption impacted service in both directions, creating a ripple effect across the subway system.
To alleviate some of the congestion, the MTA implemented a temporary reroute for Uptown N and Q trains. These trains were diverted onto the R line, traveling from DeKalb Avenue to Canal Street.
Commuters Bear the Brunt
The widespread disruptions caused headaches for New Yorkers rushing to work and school. Many commuters took to social media to vent their frustrations, while others resorted to hailing cabs or relying on ride-sharing services.
“This morning commute was a nightmare,” tweeted one disgruntled rider, echoing the sentiment of many. “Two different subway lines were down and the delays were insane. I hope the MTA gets this sorted out soon.”
A Developing Situation
As of this writing, the MTA is working diligently to resolve the ongoing issues and restore normal service as quickly as possible.
