It’s been a while since we’ve seen a patrinoupoulos being a key member of a national volleyball team and for this reason the success of native Vassilis Papastathopoulos with the Pampaion National team is a special distinction.
Our representative group won a few days ago won the gold medal in the Balkan championship that took place in Karditsa with the Olympiad passer making great appearances leading the National team to the biggest stage of the competition.
Suffice it to say that 16-year-old Vassilis Papastathopoulos was named the mvp of the tournament and that shows a lot about his quality.
If to this success, we also add the gold medal he won last March as a member of the National Youth Olympiad team that won 1st place in the Peloponnese.
The international player spoke to “Peloponnisos” about the success of the national team and his next plans…
-Do you think this year was your year, as you won the 2nd gold in a few months?
“This year was quite a good year both at the team level and at the national level. With the Olympiad, we had important distinctions as we came first in the teenage competition in the Peloponnese. Also, with the national I was on the calls both in December and in May. The hard work all year paid off for me and my teammates and we got these results.”
-What played a role in the National team winning 1st place in the Balkans?
“Before the Balkan, we were in Mouzaki for almost 20 days and we did double training every day. We had very good guidance from our coach Giorgos Outzis and his colleagues, which contributed to the result. In addition, we analyzed the opponent well before the game and during the match we were not stressed, even though we were behind in the score against Turkey, we concentrated and aimed to show what we deserve”.
-Does the fact that he was named best passer of the tournament mean something?
“Being named MVP of the tournament, I wouldn’t say it means anything specific, it’s just that the efforts of the whole year were rewarded. I played very well with the help of my teammates and my coaches and I think I helped my team win the gold medal.”
-What are your dreams in the field?
“Of course, my dream is to play volleyball at a high level. But for now the goal is to combine school with volleyball and try as much as I can in both areas.”
-Who do you want to thank for your progress so far?
“First of all, I would like to thank my Olympiad coach, Mr. Manolis Synodinos, as he has been advising me and believing in me all these years. Also, I would like to thank the coaches of both the levels and the national team, Stavros Geranio and Giorgos Outzis and his colleagues, but above all I would like to thank my family and my friends, who support me every day and help me to I’m evolving into what I love so much.”
