Consumption, in all its forms, is anything but a vehicle for creativity. This is one of the messages that rapper B-Ice, from the group Taktika, hopes to convey by meeting young people and those who fight this demon on a daily basis.
“Me too, I often thought that consumption helped me to be creative”, notes the rapper, referring to the taking of substances still too fashionable in the world of art. “When I was writing, I always smoked a joint and drank a few beers,” the 43-year-old MC recalls, lamenting that hard drugs were also part of his life at that time.
Now, B-Ice falls back on adrenaline and passion to perform at the height of his talent.
“Adrenaline is my natural substance,” says B-Ice proudly. “I finish my evenings and I remember everything, in addition to having full possession of my faculties and not being banged up for days,” explains the man who is still marked by his painful followingmath.
“I was ashamed of myself”
In 2007, B-Ice “hit rock bottom.” He was only 27 at the time. It was one morning, following spending the night “screwing up”, as he puts it, that the MC realized he had a problem.
“It was 6 a.m. and I was still stoned with friends, my mother came to help me renovate the house I had just bought,” he recalls. “I was so ashamed of myself, I felt like a real human wreck. This is where I unpacked everything to my family and my friends, ”he says, he who entered therapy barely 24 hours later.

Take nothing for granted
Even following more than 15 years, B-Ice knows very well that his sobriety can only hang by a thread. He cruelly witnessed this in 2020, when his great friend Francis, who himself showed him the way to therapy, died following health problems accentuated by consumption.
“He had relapsed in 2010,” he laments, still moved by the departure of his friend. “He worked hard to get out of it, he managed to be abstinent for a while and he was fine, but you see: we must not take that for granted,” he insists. “It is not known exactly what killed him, but I am convinced that without the consumption he would still be alive.”
A non-alcoholic beer signed Taktika
Since he has been sober for fifteen years, it was imperative for Simon Valiquette, better known by his stage name B-Ice, to include an alcohol-free product in the collaboration between the rappers of 83 and the team of L’Ironie du 13 microbrewery in Lévis. From this was born La Page Blanche, a non-alcoholic white beer.

“I mightn’t see myself promoting an alcoholic product when I was sober,” says B-Ice. “So I would never have embarked on the project without non-alcoholic beer in the plans.”
A reasoning that the entire team behind the project understood and respected, in addition to being viable for the Lévis company.
“It’s the first alcohol-free beer from L’Ironie du 13. The demand was there and it was already in the microbrewery’s plans,” notes the rapper, taking care to emphasize the importance of being in control. , even with soft drinks.
“The goal is not to encourage people who are trying to stay sober to drink a beer without alcohol, because I know that only the taste can push someone to relapse”, explains the one who admits to drinking a lot of Perrier water since the beginning of his sobriety.
The two beers resulting from the collaboration between Taktika and L’Ironie du 13, namely La Page Blanche and the Hip Hop Session, New England IPA style, are available in cans and on tap directly at the microbrewery, located on 3rd Avenue. of Levis.
