Aziz Akhannouch: Thanks to the royal will and the efforts of the government, the official character of the Berber language has been established

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch invoked the royal will, stressing that it had enabled the Amazigh language to make great progress over the past twenty years, while this historic turning point began with Ajdir’s speech in 2001.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion of the official ceremony to launch the procedures of the integrated plan for the activation of the official character of the Amazigh language, today, Tuesday, in the city of Khemisset, the Head of Government indicated that “in 2019, the regulatory law was adopted which defines the stages of activation of the official character of the Amazigh language and the mechanisms of its integration in education and in various aspects of life. After 8 years of stagnation, and this law affirms with force and firmness the status of the Amazigh language and its contribution to the rich Moroccan identity of several tributaries”

“Today, thanks to the efforts of the current government, we are witnessing demonstrations of the sustainability of the activation of the official character of the Amazigh language as stipulated in the 2011 constitution, in line with the proactive vision of His Majesty”, he said, noting that his government has begun to deploy the roadmap for these projects, which includes 25 measures in areas related to administration, public services, education, justice, culture and audiovisual media. Mr. Akhannouch recorded in his speech a number of measures taken, such as the mobilization of reception agents to guide and guide people who speak the Amazigh language (Tarifit, Tachelhit and Tamazight), and thus facilitate their communication with courts, primary health care institutions and hospitals, as well as institutions attached to the Ministry of Culture, Communication and Youth.

He added that agents in charge of telephone communication in the Amazigh language are distributed in a certain number of call centers belonging to certain ministerial sectors and public establishments, which are experiencing a high influx of users. He added that the government began to “support Amazigh activities, as well as art exhibitions and initiatives, which would enhance the tangible and intangible heritage of Amazigh culture, and then to generalize the inscription of the Amazigh language in the directions departmental, on nameplates, signs, means of transport and websites.

The Head of Government expressed his pride in activating Amazigh workshops through these measures, emphasizing the continued diligence within the government in partnership with various actors, “because the recognition of the Amazigh language cannot be limited to rights alone. cultural and linguistic, but must also be extended in order to remedy the delays in social and economic development”.
