Axios: Netanyahu working behind the scenes to regain Trump’s favor

The American website reported that Netanyahu’s allies met with Trump on at least four occasions over the past three years to try to repair relations, which deteriorated following Netanyahu congratulated Joe Biden on his victory in the 2020 elections.

According to the same source, one of those allies went so far as to bring a copy of Netanyahu’s book to the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort and read passages praising Trump, according to one of the Israeli prime minister’s aides, who noted that “every time we thought we had succeeded in getting over this, we discovered that it had not succeeded and that Trump was still angry.”

According to Axios, Netanyahu’s aides are concerned that relations will not be as close as they were during Trump’s first term if he wins in November.

However, recent events have made them cautiously optimistic following Trump shared a video of Netanyahu condemning the assassination attempt on Saturday on his Truth Social platform.

The website quoted a former Trump adviser as saying that the former president was disappointed with Netanyahu in the wake of the US elections, and also had concerns regarding the failures that led to the events of October 7.

However, the adviser said Trump would be able to work with Netanyahu if they were both in office by January.

Netanyahu was among the first world leaders to issue a statement condemning the assassination attempt on Trump, and he followed that with at least three additional statements and social media posts expressing solidarity.

Two of Netanyahu’s aides told Axios they were optimistic that relations might be mended.

One person said one person might be able to help with that, pointing to Elon Musk, who has a good relationship with Netanyahu and endorsed Trump for president earlier this week.
