We might call this mini keyboard Back to the future! When the era of full-screen smartphones appeared with the first generation of iPhone, it was the death blow for the Canadian BlackBerry.
But not for this small company which recovers the hardware part of BlackBerrys or Nokias: the physical keyboard.
Clicks Technology today unveils the Clicks creator keyboard for iPhones. It’s a nostalgic throwback to the days of BlackBerry and Nokia, where pressing physical buttons was the pinnacle of mobile communication.
“We use keyboards on our desktops, laptops and tablets every day – so it’s a little strange that we’ve abandoned physical keys on the smartphone,” according to Michael Fisher, co-founder of Clicks Technology.
Bonus: more screen real estate
The Clicks keyboard combines the benefits of touch and typing. By moving the keyboard off-screen as you type, Clicks almost doubles the available screen.
With real keys, you can now feel the delicate pressure of your keystrokes in your fingers as you type your texts and messages.
Clicks keyboards also include shortcuts such as Command + H to navigate to the home screen, or Command + Space to launch the search. Just like you do on your computer keyboard.
139$ US
Clicks keyboard connects directly to iPhone via Lightning or USB-C port.
Clicks is sold for US$139 (approximately CA$190) for the iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro devices, and US$159 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The company is opening its order book today, and specifies that it will be shipped on 1is FEBRUARY; your choice of yellow or gray.
Here’s hoping the company develops a battery case version of its physical keyboard for iPhone.
