Al-Marsad newspaper: The British Daily newspaper published the results of a study conducted on a new effective drug for the treatment of prostate cancer.
The newspaper revealed that the new drug, “Darlutamide”, has proven effective as an independent treatment in the early stages of the disease, and for patients whose cancer has spread throughout their body, the drug has also shown its effect when combined with the usual treatment protocols.
Darlutamide works by blocking the male testosterone produced by men from reaching the cancer cells, which prostate cancer uses to grow.
She said this study was a compelling case for adding darulutamide to standard chemotherapy and hormone therapy, as it would help men with advanced prostate cancer live longer, healthier lives and with less pain.
During the study, it was found that those patients who took the new treatment slowed the progression of their cancer for four years, while patients who underwent the standard treatments got worse following only 6 months.
For men with early-stage prostate cancer, surgery is usually offered to remove the prostate – and the internal tumor – in the hope of a cure, and if they refuse surgery, which men often do because the procedure can lead to incontinence and erectile dysfunction, the study reported.
